Obituary

ABILENE - Lila Faye Barner, 88 passed away at home in Abilene on Sunday, January 17th. Faye’s wishes were that she be cremated. No burial or funeral services will be held. Private family remembrances will be shared.
Faye was one of five children born to Leonard and Lila (Parker) House on July 25th 1932 in Fordyce, Arkansas. She was a twin to her brother Ray. Also born to this marriage were sisters, Dorothy Armstrong, Betty Woods, and Nancy Allen. When she was still a small child, the family moved from Arkansas, to the Long Beach area of Southern California where Faye and her siblings grew up.
Faye married Sanford Barner on June 25th 1950. Together they had three children: Deborah Barner and Sandra Mullen both of Abilene and Edward Barner of Lee’s Summit, Mo. These children provided their mom with five grandchildren which she adored: Matthew Eidson (Los Angeles, California), Ryan Vickers and Evan Vickers (Jacksonville, Florida), and Natalie Rolle (Windsor, Colorado). Faye also leaves many nieces and nephews who have many fond memories of her.
Faye worked as a telephone operator before the children came and spent the next several years as a homemaker raising a family. Faye and Sanford moved to a new home in the San Fernando Valley when the children were very young and lived there until they were empty nesters. They later moved to Bellflower, California where Faye managed rental property and Sanford sold cars. Sanford always said that Faye was the love of his life; giving her credit for the things that they accomplished and for providing him with good kids, a nice home, and lots of tender loving care.
After his retirement, Faye and her husband moved to Woodson, Texas to raise cattle on a small ranch. Faye and Sanford attended the First Christian Church where they had many friends and enjoyed living in a small rural community. After Sanford had a traumatic brain injury that made it impossible for him to continue ranching, he and Faye bought a home in Abilene so that they would be close to hospitals and doctors.
Although the family was scattered across the country, Faye continued to be a part of the lives of her children and grandchildren whom she loved very much. Faye lived a life of happiness and fulfillment as well as challenges, and disappointments, but she weathered them all well and those who knew and loved her will miss her support and encouragement.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful nurses and staff at Hendrick Hospice Care for the care that they gave to Faye and the family. We can’t say enough about their quick responses and loving care while treating our mom with the utmost dignity and respect.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like or those who wish to memorialize Faye’s life to consider making a donation to Hendrick Hospice Care or your local animal shelter or rescue organization. Services entrusted to North's Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.northsfuneralhome.com
