Obituary

On Monday January 25th, 2021, Retired Major Hub Phipps United States Army, our hero, loving husband and wonderful father of four children, passed on to heaven at the age of 86.

Hub was born on April 13,1934 in Winters, TX. He was raised at the Hendrick Home for Children in Abilene, Texas and played football at Abilene High and Baylor University.

He received his degree in Geology from Baylor University.

Hub served in the US Army for over 25 years. He bravely fought in the Vietnam war and brought back the first POW’s from Vietnam. He will be remembered as a hero in all of our hearts.

On September 26, 1961 Hub married Billie Steele and raised 4 children together, Duff, Tonja, Hub Jr and Tyra. Hub had a passion for his family and fishing. He loved going on fishing trips with his many brothers and grandchildren. He was known for his incredible sense of humor, goofy faces, great laugh, and his kind compassionate heart. Hub lived an extraordinary life touching the life of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Hub was preceded in death by his first wife Blanche, mother of Hub Jr. and Billie. He is survived by his 4 children, Duff Phipps, Tonja Coppenbarger, Hub Phipps Jr., and Tyra Stephens, his 10 grandchildren, and 12 great- grandchildren. He will be laid to rest next to his beautiful wife Billie in Elmwood Memorial Park. We only imagine that they are reunited holding hands walking through the streets of gold.

A celebration of life will be held at his graveside on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Elmwood Memorial Park, where the whole family can gather safely and honor this incredible man. Services entrusted to North's Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.northsfuneralhome.com
